Did you know that PDFs were launched on June 15, 1993? If you are looking to make a PDF into a Word document, you are in the right place. We have put together the top pro tips for converting a PDF to Word that you should know.

Keep reading to learn everything there is to know about converting PDFs to Word Documents.

  1. Converting to Word Manually

Learning how to convert pdf to Word manually is not too difficult it will just take a little more time and a little more data manipulation. All you need is Adobe Reader, Microsoft, and any type of text editor. Keep in mind that if you do not have Adobe Reader yet, you can download a free version on the Adobe website at any time.

Fist, you will save a PDF as a text file by clicking the File menu and click Save As Other and then click Text. Name the file whatever you desire and then click Save. Next, you will open the .txt file of your PDF document with any text editor such as Notepad and then select all of the text and then press Ctrl+C to copy the text while it is highlighted.

Open a blank Word document and paste the text that you copied in there. You can either right-click and press Paste or you can hold the Ctrl+V button down to paste. Once everything is in your Word document you can save it with the filename of your choice.

You can now edit and change the document as you please.

  1. Adobe Acrobat 7

If you are paying for Adobe and have the Adobe Acrobat 7 or later version you can export a PDF document into a Word doc. Keep in mind that this will not work with the Adobe reader, it has to be the full Acrobat version.

All you have to do is load the PDF and then choose File, then click Save As and choose Word document as the Save As File Type. This will automatically create the document file.

  1. Formatting

We want to make sure that you are aware that when you convert your PDF file to a Word document more than likely the new document will not look like the original PDF. You will have to do a lot of extra formatting to make it look identical or to make it look the way you want.

The first thing you have to focus on is getting the PDF document into a Word document that you can edit and format as needed.

  1. Older Word Versions

If you are not working with newer Word versions then you can’t open a PDF directly. Word 2010 and later will allow you to open directly with no problems. With an older Word version then you can convert the file first with different options.

One option is a site like Word.net or doc2pdf. If you prefer to use desktop software then you can use options like PDFMate or WPS Office’s Converter. For our Mac users, you can use either iPubsoft or Lighten to make the conversion. These are not completely free you will have a free trial and then you will have to choose a plan.

Here are a few other software options that you can choose from:

Zamzar

This is an all in one converter that supports 1200 different file types, so we highly recommend it. Instead of having to browse for files you can use a drag and drop feature that it has available, making it super user friendly. You also have the ability to convert up to 10 files at the same time instead of one by one.

There is a paid subscription available that will allow you to convert even more files at the same time. One major bonus is that you can choose the Word format you prefer (DOC, DOCX, or RTF). Once Zamzar converts your file for you, they will email it to your account, the only drawback is that each file will be sent via a separate email.

The free version does have a size limit of up to 100MB. If you need to convert larger PDF files then the paid subscriptions have up to 2GB size limits.

Convert.Files

This is another free file converter that you can use online. It is best if the PDF file is on the simple side because it does not do well converting complicated and sophisticated tables. It has the ability to handle interactive forms a lot better than other free online converters out there but sometimes it fails to correctly position the text inside multiple cells.

One of its limitations is that a PDF can’t be converted to modern Word formats of .docx, you can only convert to .doc. Once you save it as a .doc document you can then save it as a .docx later on.

EasyPDFCloud

This is an online service that allows you to store and convert PDFs. You can convert it to a Word file (.docx) and either download it to your computer or choose to keep it saved in your online storage. If you currently use Dropbox they also offer optional integration.
